The Club came into existence in 1875 and moved into its present premises in 1900. The officers of the Calcutta Light Horse Regiment were among the Club’s founders and when the Regiment was disbanded after Independence, the Regiment Trophies were housed in the bar, called “Light Horse Bar” which still retains the same old décor and atmosphere. For a princely sum of rupees five, John Carapiet Galstaun of 234/4, Lower Circular Road assigned premise no. 7, Wood Street to Saturday Club. John had a 51 years lease with the owners of the premises-the Trustees and Shebaits of the Rajendro Mullick Bahadur of Marble Palace. No. of members : over 2000. Procedure of becoming member : Membership at present is closed. For membership, however, a permanent member of the club has to propose.
The Club has 12 airconditioned suites with attached bath 5 star facilities, It has Indoor Badminton Court, with wooden floor. You can get a large variety of assorted Breads, Cakes, Pastries, etc. There's well equipped Health Club (with sauna and steam baths) for men and women and lots more……
