Strike calls trouble at various city colleges, state universities

The Students Federation of India created a ruckus and problems in some colleges in the city today to make their Monday students’ strike successful. The strike was supposed to be observed at all colleges in the city and all universities in the state. However, while in some colleges the strike call did not have any effect, some colleges saw terror and hooliganism unleashed by the SFI.

In Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, representatives of the SFI said that they were beaten up. However, those outside the banner of the SFI said that there were problems created by the SFI. There was also some disturbances at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.

There were major disturbances at Jogesh Chandra College in Prince Anwar Shah Road. When the college principal was trying to enter the college, SFI students tried to stop him. Seeing this, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad students came forward and there was a major altercation.

Sudip Sengupta, state secretary of SFI, said, “Five of our members have been injured in the scuffle.”

However, classes at Presidency College and Ballygunge Science College were held as usual. Police were deployed outside Jadavpur University and University of Calcutta to avoid any untoward incident.
