Emirates set to spread wings
Completing a year of passenger service, Emirates will increase its usual six flights a week to seven as well as introduce four new destinations this year. The Emirates is also all set to offer passengers the option of using their own mobile phones onboard from 2007.
“We have 87 destinations so far. From 1 July, we are introducing flights to Venice. The New Castle flight will start from 1 September. This will be our fifth destination in the UK. From 1 October will start daily flights to Sao Paulo and from 1 December, to Houston. We have sent the proposal to the head office and to the Government of India for their consents. Once they clear the offers, these will be introduced possibly in 2007,” said Mrs Geetika Seth, Emirates’ sales manager, East India.
The Emirates has also increased its seat capacity. When it launched on 26 March 2006 in Kolkata, it offered 12 business class seats and 183 economy class seats. It has now increased these seats to 27 and 251 respectively.
Ms Seth added: “We have 60 per cent business passengers and 40 per cent leisure travellers from Kolkata to Dubai. Our focus is on both but we want to maximise on economy class.” On the occasion of its first anniversary, Emirates is offering attractive package to its passengers.
